Assertiveness vs aggression

Assertiveness (typically expressed in the form of “I” statements) is declaring what you intend to do. Instead of coming out as aggressive, you’re expressing your feelings or opinions.

In contrast, aggression is perceived by the opposing party as hostile or unfriendly behaviour. It frequently employs the term “you”. When you tell someone what to do, they may become upset and feel confronted. Even when speaking with employees, it is best to use softer language when asking them to complete duties, as they are more inclined to respond to requests than orders.

Consistent assertiveness tells people you are confident and willing to listen to suggestions, but will not be taken advantage of, resulting in a mutually acceptable outcome.
